I add below information of some old
experiments whith LDE registration.

At first, Von-der-Pool registred some unexpected radioechoes
(1927).

Delay's times was very long but more strange was so energy of echoes
was equal (on average) to 1/3 energy of initial Earth signal.

Then
Stormer & Hals & Von-der-Pool did longterm experiment (1928-29 years).

Technical delay between Earth signals was 20 secunds, pattern of
Earth sign was constructed as three Morse points.

Then

Epplton's data of 1934 year- more than 100
registred echoes.

Then

French scientists did successful experiments
with registration (Indonesia , near 1930).

Be sure, it was best experiments with clear results.
After 40-50th years registration was poor and sporadic
(see QST).
